Francesco Padre ML990

Status: Completed

Synopsis

On the night between the 3rd and 4th of November 1994, the Molfetta fishing boat "Francesco Padre", with five men and a dog on board, sank taking their bodies down. Due to a peacetime war game the lives of five Apulian fishing families, on that dreadful night, was halted forever. The story was immediately defined as the "Ustica of Molfetta". The five men of the Francesco Padre "were declared" guilty of their death: that is, they would have blown up because they were carrying illegally explosive in war zones. And so the victims were turned into executioners and their families had to give up the right to bury their loved ones (deliberately left at the bottom of the sea); renounce the right to receive economic aid from the state (first recognized and then denied); to the right to know the truth (a state secret has formally prevented this) and therefore to the right to have justice. Twenty years of silence, omissions, investigations, state secrets, truth.
